A 12.7 mm heavy machine gun NSVT is the tank version of NSV-12.7 mm. The NSVT is the vehicle mounted version of the NSV and is also known as the 6P17. The NSVT is equipped with an electrical trigger. The special tank mount has a buffered cradle, traverse and elevation mechanisms and a special collimating sight.

The NSVT is primarily used as anti-aircraft armament for tanks, but can also be found on various other vehicles. NSVT machine gun mount is of independent type with remote electromechanical control of 12.7-mm antiaircraft machine gun 6FI49 fitted, on it. Aiming device PZU-7 has magnification of 1.2x. Protected antiaircraft machine gun mount is used for hitting ground light-armoured targets, enemy manpower and for defense against air attacks.
