H-47 CHINOOK
Heavy-Lift Dominance
The H-47 Chinook is the heavy-lift helicopter of choice for the U.S. Army and 20 international operators. This advanced, multi-mission, tandem rotor helicopter excels in cargo and troop transport, search and rescue, casualty evacuation, special operations, humanitarian efforts, disaster relief, and more.
The tandem rotor design enhances stability, control, and agility, making loading and unloading easier and improving performance in windy conditions. The Chinook can operate in environments where other helicopters cannot, thanks to its rear ramp access unaffected by tail rotor clearance, enabling operations on unprepared, mountainous terrain and executing unique pinnacle landings. This design allows the Chinook to fly up to 20,000 feet, higher than other helicopters in its class.
Equipped with a fully integrated digital cockpit management system—the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) Cockpit paired with a Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS)—and advanced cargo-handling capabilities, the Chinook enhances mission performance and situational awareness.
Covering vast distances quickly, the H-47 Chinook can be fitted with extended range fuel tanks and air-to-air refueling capabilities, allowing it to fly farther than ever before.

Modernized and Ready Now
To safely and effectively accomplish critical missions now and in the future, soldiers must have the most modernized heavy-lift solution. The H-47 Chinook Block II, the most advanced and capable heavy-lift aircraft in its class, is the only way to rapidly meet the warfighter’s ever-evolving needs. Boeing’s H-47 Chinook Block II is powered by cutting-edge technologies – redesigned fuel tanks, a strengthened fuselage, and an improved drivetrain, all of which enable soldiers to meet today’s heavy-lift mission requirements.
A Long-Term Solution
The Chinook Block II program positions the Army and international allies for long-term success. Not only is the Block II aircraft capable of meeting today’s heavy-lift requirements, it provides structural and design improvements that allow additional future upgrades to meet long-term heavy-lift needs.
Key investments in next generation technologies such as avionics open systems architecture and mission systems integration will enable decisive overmatch — a critical advantage for the warfighter to succeed in Joint All-Domain Operations. Structural enhancements and vehicle power upgrades will keep the Chinook prepared to fight and win in all missions including large scale combat operations for decades to come.
Supporting the Industrial Base
The H-47 Chinook program supports more than 20,000 jobs and 360 suppliers in 40 states, and is relied on by the U.S. Army and 19 other countries around the globe. Chinook Block II production will leverage and strengthen our manufacturing base which will guarantee timely support to both the production line and our soldiers in the field. It will ultimately enable our troops to get to where they’re needed, when they’re needed, and get them out of danger when their job is done. With more than 950 Chinooks in 20 countries, the program continues to deliver unrivaled production, maintenance and sustainment cost efficiencies.
